Actions in a Road Traffic Accident Situation

Ensure that the road traffic accident site is safe

Turn on emergency lights and side markers. If emergency lights are not working or visibility is poor, place a warning triangle on the road (25m from the car in an inhabited area, or 50m from the car outside an inhabited area towards the higher risk zone). In conditions of insufficient visibility and during the dark hours, wear a reflective vest.

First Aid

If there are casualties in the road traffic accident who need help, immediately inform the Rescue Service (the unified emergency call number “112”). Specify the exact location of the road traffic accident and the nature of the injuries. Within your competence, provide first aid to the injured, consulting with the Emergency Medical Services staff if necessary. Take care of your own and fellow people's safety.

Do not change the car's location before the arrival of the State Police and the formalization of the road traffic accident.

Inform the Rescue Service (the unified emergency call number “112”) State Police personnel, if:

• the parties involved in the road traffic accident do not agree on who is at fault;
• any of the parties involved in the road traffic accident are under the influence of alcohol, narcotic or psychotropic substances;
• documents of the vehicles involved or their drivers are not in order;
• the road traffic accident has caused damage to third-party property;
• there are casualties in the road traffic accident;
• any of the parties involved in the road traffic accident is a cyclist or pedestrian, even if they have not sustained injuries;
• there are no casualties, but it is not possible to independently eliminate risks to the surrounding environment and traffic participants;
• there has been a collision with a large wild animal.

Assess the circumstances of the road traffic accident and preserve evidence

If possible, record the identification data of the vehicles involved in the road traffic accident, as well as the names, surnames, and addresses of the involved persons and witnesses. Do not prematurely assume your fault and responsibility (this will be evaluated by competent authorities). Do not leave the road traffic accident site without coordinating with the State Police. Fill out documents about the road traffic accident and send them to E-CAR within 24 hours.

Follow the instructions of the responsible E-CAR employee.

In case it is not possible to contact the responsible E-CAR employee and the E-CAR rental car is not drivable:

• inform Toyota Eurocare (in Latvia phone no. +371 80004488, abroad phone no. +371 67819711). Follow the instructions of the Toyota Eurocare representative, including the evacuation of the E-CAR rental car to the nearest Toyota authorized dealer service;
• inform/register the insurance event with AAS “BTA Baltic Insurance Company” (phone no. +371 26121212). Follow the instructions of the insurance company representative.
